SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) today announced that it has received an SCF Small Cell Award in the category of ‘Commercial Small Cell Design and Technology’ for its cutting-edge 5G-4G Dual-Mode RF Repeater.
Now in its 12th year, the SCF Small Cell Awards recognize innovations in small cell technology and best practices in deployments around the world. The SCF Small Cell Awards are judged independently by a panel of leading analysts, journalists and industry experts.
Commercialized for the first time in the world in December 2019, SK Telecom’s 5G-4G Dual-Mode RF Repeater receives both 5G and 4G radio frequency signals from outdoor base stations and boosts these signals to amplify coverage in indoor areas including buildings and underground spaces.
In particular, in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom, the company has upgraded its 5G-4G Dual-Mode RF Repeater to provide optimal performance in Europe’s network environment and plans to provide the repeaters to support Deutsche Telekom’s customer trial for 5G indoor coverage in Germany in the third quarter of this year.
“The dual mode RF repeater can greatly enhance the business case for in-building networks and support an excellent user experience indoors, as its commercial track record clearly illustrates,” the judges commented.
“We are delighted to receive this award as it recognizes our efforts to develop breakthrough small cell technologies to provide seamless 5G coverage,” said Park Jong-kwan, Vice President and Head of 5GX Technology Group. “We will continue to focus on delivering the best 5G experience to our customers through ceaseless technological innovations”
