SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM, hereinafter referred to as “SKT”) today announced that it will participate in MWC Barcelona 2022 to be held from February 28 to March 3. At its 792 square meter booth in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via, SKT will be introducing its industry-leading technologies and services, including metaverse, AI and Urban Air Mobility (UAM).
SKT will showcase the global and HMD versions of its metaverse platform Ifland; mixed reality capture studio named Jump Studio, which creates an immersive K-pop concert experience via volumetric technology; Korea’s first AI semiconductor chip Sapeon; UAM powered by connected intelligence; and 4D Metaverse, which provides a glimpse of the future virtual world through an exciting ride on a giant robot arm.
SKT’s CEO Ryu Young-sang will visit Barcelona to attend the event. He will present the company’s new vision and ambitions, and seek areas of cooperation with companies of diverse fields, including telecommunications, device and future technology, to further expand and enrich customer experience through the provision of top notch ICT services.
“Since commercializing 5G service in 2019, we have successfully introduced diverse services and technologies including Ifland, AI semiconductor and quantum cryptography technologies that brought revolutionary changes to the market,” said Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SKT. “This year’s MWC will create valuable opportunities for us to increase our global market presence.”
Under CEO Ryu’s leadership, SKT is making diverse efforts to keep its employees and visitors safe against COVID-19 during the MWC exhibition.
SKT will be sending only a limited number of employees to Barcelona, and will closely check their health conditions and give out “safety packages” containing COVID-19 self-test kits, face masks and sanitizers. Upon their return to Korea, these employees will be provided with full support in terms of PCR tests and self-quarantine.
To ensure the safety of visitors, SKT will also offer a non-face-to-face tour by utilizing its ICT. The company will be operating automatic control robots applied with a video conferencing solution to guide visitors throughout the tour while minimizing human contact.
Meanwhile, SKT will also invite nine Korean startups to 4YFN, the startup event of MWC Barcelona to be held in Hall 6 of Fira Gran Via, to showcase 11 different items including two of its ESG projects. As SKT’s partners in creating social value, these startups will introduce how they are using their innovative technologies to tackle social issues and engage in active conversations with global companies.
